Coil Handling Safety
Always wear safety shoes when handling heavy objects such as coil stock.
Exercise extreme caution in the vicinity of a hanging load. This includes any time a coil is lifted, whether by forklift, cherry picker, or crane. Stand clear and stay out from under all hanging loads. Never stand between a hanging load and the machine, and never stand between a hanging load and any fixed object like a wall or vehicle. Failure to observe the safety measures may result in serious personal injury.
The sharp metal edges of coil stock present a serious cutting hazard. Suitable hand protection such as leather gloves are recommended when handling coil stock.
Never attempt to balance an unstable coil by hand.
Never handle coil alone.
Caution must be exercised when removing the banding or tape holding a coil closed. The coil will act like a circular spring and "slap" open if not properly contained.
Never drop a coil and spool into the spool uprights or into a spool cradle. Dropping the coil may result in structural damage, and serious personal injury may result.
Electrical Safety
Secure power to the machine when not in use.
Secure power to the machine during all maintenance, change over, and crash removal procedures.
Never perform maintenance on an energized electrical circuit.
Never open an electrical enclosure when the equipment is energized.
Never operate electrical equipment or electric motors in the rain or while wearing wet clothing.
Ensure the machine is clear of all personnel, hazards, and foreign objects prior to energizing.
Always use a power source, wiring, and extension cords meeting at least the minimum requirements specified in the manual.
Polyurethane Drive System
Caution - do not over tighten drive rollers. The factory setting for the rollers is 1/4 turn past the point of contact. Maximum amount of drive pressure recommended is 1/4 turn past factory setting.
The drive train of this machine is in most circumstances maintenance free. If a material traction problem arises or a roller is replaced, the top roller is adjustable up and down.
Cleaning of polyurethane, clean the outer surface of rollers using soap and water to remove any dirt or debris from roller.
Adjusting Drive System: To add traction, start with top #1 drive assembly. Turn locking nut counter clockwise (loosen) on locking bolt 4 places. Turn locking bolt counter clockwise (loosen) 4 places 1/4 turn to just enough to break them free. Turn adjustment bolt clockwise 1/16 of a turn. Re-tighten locking bolt 4 places. Re-tighten locking nuts.
Run machine forward if more traction is needed, repeat the above procedure on top #2 drive assembly. Run the machine forward if more traction is needed, repeat above procedure on both #1 and #2 drive assemblies.
NOTE: If material slippage occurs after material leaves the #2 drive assembly while clearing machine, add pressure to the #3 drive forming assembly.
Gutter Talk
Common terms describing the condition of the gutter.
Into the house - This term describes a condition where the ends of the gutter are closer to the fascia board that the center. Looking from the machine the gutter has a right hand curve.
Away from the house - This term describes a condition where the center of the gutter is closer to the fascia board than the ends. Looking from the machine the gutter has a left hand curve.
Up hill - This term describes a condition where the ends of the gutter are bowing up. The center of the gutter is lower than the ends.
Down hill - This term describes a condition where the ends of the gutter are bowing down. The center of the gutter is higher than the ends.
Top lip into the house - This term describes a condition where the ends of the top lip are closer to the fascia board than the middle.
Top lip away from the house - This term describes a condition where the ends of the top lip are further away from the fascia board than the middle.
Machine Operation Summary
This section is a brief summary in the operation of the machine. This section is not a substitute for the manual. Read the entire machine operating manual before attempting to operate the machine.
Order of Procedure to Operate the Machine
Note: If the mean temperature of the machine is at 32 degrees or below, set the JOG/RUN switch to "RUN" and run the machine empty for at least 10 minutes before attempting to run any material through the machine.
1. Start the procedure by going to the control panel at the exit end of the machine. Select the JOG/RUN switch to "JOG" and the FORWARD/REVERSE switch to "FORWARD". Plug in the machine.
2. Select the reel that has the material to be formed into a gutter profile. Loosen the brakes to the reel to be used. Leave some drag on the brake so that the coil will not unravel. Cut both end corners at approximately 2" @ 45 degree angle, off the end of the coil and insert it into the entry guide. With the coil wrapped around the entry guide approximately 30 degrees, push the material into machine until it stops against the first drive roller. Insert entry guide lock bar into slots.
3. Check that the entry guide is snug but not binding against the material edges. Adjust the back entry guide if necessary.
4. Grab hold of the material with one hand and reach to the right side of the machine and depress and hold the start button. Push the material forward into the machine until the first drive roller engages and proceeds to advance the material through the machine under its own power. Release the start button and go to the exit end of the machine and proceed to "JOG" the material through the machine. Pay particular attention to the shear assembly. Even though the shear was designed for ease of threading the material through the machine it is wise to "JOG" the material through the shear assembly.
5. Advance the gutter a few inches and cut off the end of gutter. Check the profile and especially the lip to be sure that the material was fed in straight, when it was guided into the machine. The machine is now ready to operate.
6. Turn the JOG/RUN switch to "RUN". Using the start and stop buttons at the exit end of the machine, run out about 2 ft of gutter. Attach the end of your measuring tape to the end of the gutter and proceed to run out your first length of gutter. Set up run-out stands at approximately every 15 ft as required until the acquired length is achieved.
7. Stop the machine and cut the gutter with the shear.
NOTE:
Always keep your shear blade well lubricated during use and when storing the machine.
8. When running the last piece of gutter make the last cut before it enters the machine. The machine should be empty when transporting from one job site to another. This saves on material when transporting the machine. It also provides for the changing of colors at each job without wasting material.
CAUTION: If the machine is not in use, leave the machine empty. The drive rollers will perform better if the machine is not stored with gutter material in the machine.
